Question : Renaming of Airports

(a) whether the proposal for changing the names of the airports are pending with the Union Government and if so, the details thereof;

(b) the criteria for changing the names of airports and the authority for its monitoring;

(c) whether the Union Government proposes to name Jaipur International Airport after Late Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat;

(d) if so, the time by which the said airport is likely to be renamed and if not, the reasons therefor;

(e) whether the Union Government has received any proposal from the State Government of Rajasthan in this regard; and

(f) whether the Union Government proposes to construct new airport in Rajasthan and if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): A request for naming/renaming of airport is considered by the Union Cabinet based on the recommendations of the concerned State Government supported by a resolution passed in the respective State Legislative Assembly. Proposals for renaming of Vijayawada, Tirupati, Agra, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Kanpur (Chakeri), Adampur, Shirdi, Kolhapur, Jabalpur, Chandigarh, Dehradun and Imphal airports/ civil enclaves at defence airports, along with the resolution passed in the respective State Legislative Assemblies have been received by the Union Government.

(c) to (e): The Union Government has not received any proposal from the State Government of Rajasthan for renaming of Jaipur International Airport after Late Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.

(f): The proposal for development of airports at Bhiwadi, Kota and civil enclave at Uttarlai in Rajasthan are at different stages viz. seeking ''in principle'' approval, handing over and mutation of land by State Government etc. for processing the proposals.
