Question : Irrigation Schemes

(a) the details of the schemes being implemented by the Government for providing improved system of irrigation for increasing agricultural productivity;

(b) the details of the amount of funds released for the said schemes during the last five years, State-wise;

(c) whether the Union Government proposes to implement any special irrigation schemes for North Eastern States including Assam;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the steps being taken or likely to be taken by the Government to strengthen the irrigation system in Gujarat?

(a) to (d): Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare(DAC&FW) is implementing Per Drop More Crop (PDMC) component of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) which is operational in the country from 2015-16. The PMKSY-PDMC focuses on enhancing water use efficiency at farm level through Micro Irrigation technologies viz. Drip and Sprinkler Irrigation systems. The details of State-wise Central Assistance released under the scheme from 2015-16 to 2018-19 is given at Annexure-I.

The Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation is implementing Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP) and Har Khet Ko Pani (HKKP) components of PMKSY.

PMKSY-AIBP focuses on faster completion of ongoing Major and Medium Irrigation projects including National Projects. During 2016-17, 99 ongoing Major/Medium irrigation projects under AIBP having ultimate irrigation potential of 76.03 lakh ha have been prioritised in consultation with the States, for completion in phases upto December, 2019 alongwith their Command Area Development & Water Management (CADWM) works.


Surface Minor Irrigation (SMI) and Repair, Renovation and Restoration (RRR) of Water Bodies schemes are being implemented under HKKP.

These schemes also cover North Eastern States including Assam. The details of funds released since 2014-15 to 2018-19 is given at Annexure-II.

(e): Under 99 prioritized projects, one project namely Sardar Sarovar Project has been included from Gujarat State. The details of AIBP component of this project are as under:-
