Question : USE OF WAGONS BY TRADERS



(a) whether facility of wagons is being provided for transportation of goods to small and medium traders by the Railways;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the facility has been withdrawn;

(d) if so, the reasons therefor;

(e) whether the Railways are contemplating to resume the facility of wagons to small traders;

(f) if so, the time by which it is likely to be resumed;

(g) whether rakes are being used for carrying goods in place of wagons; and

(h) if so, the details thereof?

(a): Yes, Madam.

(b): No separate record for wagons supplied to small and medium traders is being maintained by Railways. Total 13220844 wagons (in 8- wheeler units) have been loaded by Indian Railways up to Feb.’10 during 2009-10 including for small & medium Traders.

(c): No, Madam.

(d): Does not arise.

(e): Does not arise.

(f): Does not arise.

(g) & (h): Movement on Indian Railways is done in Rakes which comprise wagons.
