Question : WELFARE OF SCHEDULED TRIBES



(a) whether the current scheme relating to assistance to be provided to Non-governmental Organisations engaged in the welfare of Scheduled Tribes has recently been reviewed or proposed to be reviewed;

(b) if so, the details therefor;

(c) the benefits accruing out of such review to the Scheduled Tribes;

(d) whether the funds allocated for development of Scheduled Tribes have been diverted for other uses;

(e) if so , the details thereof alongwith the reasons therefor; and

(f) the action taken by the Government thereon?

(a) & (b): Ministry of Tribal Affairs has already taken action for appraisal of the scheme of “Grant-in-aid to Voluntary Organizations working for Welfare of Scheduled Tribes”, through Expenditure Finance Committee as per established procedure.

(c): The revised guidelines of the scheme aim at enhancing the reach of welfare schemes of Government and fill the gaps in service deficient tribal areas, in sectors such as education, health, drinking water, agro-horticultural productivity, social security etc. through the efforts of voluntary organizations.
