Question : Implementation of SBM-U

(a) whether the Government has increased the amount of Central Share of funds towards the implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U);

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the quantum of funds released to each State, particularly to Tamil Nadu during the last five years, year-wise;

(d) the details of the projects being executed during the same period under the mission; and

(e) the quantum of funds earmarked and likely to be allocated for Tamil Nadu during the next three years?

(a) & (b) : Government of India have launched Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) 2.0 on October 1, 2021 with the total outlay of Rs. 1,41,600 crores, including Central Share of Rs. 36,465 crores, which is nearly 2.5 times the allocation of Rs. 14,623 crores out of total outlay of Rs. 62,009 crores under SBM – U launched in 2014.

(c) : Year-wise detail of funds released to each state including Tamil Nadu under SBM (U) is at Annexure.

(d) : As reported by the State, a total of 5,08,562 units of Individual Household Toilets (IHHTs) and 92,744 seats of Community/Public Toilets (CT/PTs) have been constructed in Tamil Nadu. Funds have been utilised in projects that has resulted in 98% of door-to-door collection of waste, 92% of segregation of waste at source and 53% of the scientific processing of total waste generated. In addition, funds have been utilised for capacity building and generation of awareness through Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities.

(e) : Rs. 3,296.70 crores Central Assistance has been allocated to State of Tamil Nadu under SBM (U) 2.0 for the next five years.
