Question : Setting of Space Station

(a) whether the Government proposes to have its own space station;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government has taken steps to work out the modalities for it and if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether the Government has set any time frame for the setting up of space station;
(e) if so, the time by which it is likely to be materialized;
(f) whether the proposed space station is a habitable artificial satellite in low earth orbit; and
(g) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b) Yes Sir. The activities associated with Space station will be an extension of Gaganyaan Programme.

(c) & (d) No Sir.

(e) Does not arise.

(f) & (g) Yes Sir. The proposed space station will be a habitable artificial satellite in low earth orbit. It will be a platform for conducting scientific research, simulating sustainable microgravity environment. The key target areas for research are crystal growth, space agriculture, cell and tissue growth and pharmaceutical research, human physiology, space medicine, etc.
