Question : Task Force for Olympics

(a) Whether the Government has set up a Task Force to prepare a comprehensive action plan for the next three Olympic Games and if so, the details thereof along with the composition and the terms of reference of the task force;

(b) whether the Task Force has submitted its recommendations and if so, the reaction of the Government thereto and if not, the time by which the recommendations are likely to be submitted;

(c) the estimated cost to be incurred on the Task Force; and

(d) whether State Governments and various sports bodies are to be consulted in the process and if so, the details thereof?

(a) Yes, Madam. The Government has constituted the Olympic Task Force for preparing action plan for next three Olympic
Games 2020, 2024 and 2028. The members of the Committee are as follows :-

2. Shri Abhinav Bindra, Olympian & Gold Medalist
3. Shri Rajesh Kalra, Chief Editor, Times Group Online
4. Shri Om Pathak, School Sports Promotion Foundation
5. Shri Viren Rasquinha, CEO – Olympic Gold Quest
6. Shri S. Baldev Singh, Hockey Coach
7. Prof. G.L. Khanna, Professor & Dean (Exercise & Physiology), Faculty of Applied Sciences, Manav Rachna International University, Faridabad
8. Shri Sandeep Pradhan, Director General, Sports Authority of Gujarat (Member Convenor)
The Terms of Reference of the Task Force are:-
a) To suggest a comprehensive action plan including short-term, medium-term and long-term measures for effective participation of Indian sportspersons in the next three Olympic Games to be held in 2020, 2024 and 2028.
b) To suggest effective methods to identify core probable/medal prospects for 2020 Olympics, their coaches and support staff.
c) To suggest effective talent identification system for 2024 and 2028 Olympics.
d) To identify components of world class support system for elite sportspersons and lay down the pathways.
e) To suggest ways to achieve synergy in the efforts of key stakeholders within Government of India and across State Governments, Indian Olympic Association, National Sports Federations, NGOs etc.
f) To suggest ways to significantly improve the standards of coaching and sports scientist within the country.
g) To suggest ways to create and upgrade sports infrastructure necessary to train top-level athletes.
h) To make suggestions regarding foreign training and exposure of top-level athletes.
i) To make recommendations on any other matters referred to the Task Force by the Government of India.
(b) The Task Force has submitted its interim report to the Government and the same is under examination.
(c) The Olympic Task Force for Olympics is required to carry out activities over a considerable period of time and, therefore, at this stage, it is not possible to estimate the cost to be incurred for the Task Force.
(d) They have held consultations with all stakeholders including Sports Bodies and State Government officials, as per Terms of Reference.
