Question : Construction of Ports in Andhra Pradesh

(a) whether in view of ‘Act East Policy’, the Government proposes to develop more ports on the Eastern side of the country, if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether it has come to the notice of the Government that Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board has proposed to construct ports namely Ramayapatnam, Bhavanapadu and Machilipatnam and if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the details of financial and other helps being extended to the Government of Andhra Pradesh for early completion of the said ports?

Answer given by the minister

(a)The Sagarmala programme is the flagship programme of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways to promote port-led development in the country through harnessing India’s 7,500 km long coastline, 14,500 km of potentially navigable waterways and strategic location on key international maritime trade routes. As a part of Sagarmala Programme, more than 800 projects at an estimated cost of around 5.54 lakh crore have been identified for implementation during 2015 to 2035 across all coastal states on Eastern and Western side of the country. Sagarmala projects includes projects from various categories such as modernisation of existing ports and terminals, new ports, terminals, RoRo & tourism jetties, enhancement of port connectivity, inland waterways, lighthouse tourism, industrialization around port, skill development, technology centres, etc.



(b) & (c)Yes Sir, Government of Andhra Pradesh has informed that they have decided to develop three new ports in the state viz. (1) Ramayapatnam, (2) Machilipatnam and (3) Bhavanapadu. However, Under Sagarmala Programme, no financial assistance has been provided to Government of Andhra Pradesh for development of these three non-major ports.
