(a) whether the Government propose to launch a millennium study on the state of Indian farmers;

(b) if so, the main objectives of launching the study;

(c) whether the Government propose to corporatisation of some areas of the agricultural sector; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a)&(b): As part of an ongoing Plan Scheme titled “Planning & Management of Indian Agriculture” a proposal is under consideration to conduct a Study on the state of Indian farmers. The Study aims to take stock of status of Indian farmers at the beginning of new millennium and to assess the impact of policies and programmes undertaken during last 50 years of development planning on their conditions.

(c)&(d): There is no bar on corporations participating in agricultural activities, provided they do not violate the provisions of any of the existing Central or State laws governing these activities.
