Status of bridges is maintained Railway-wise not
State-wise. There are total 354 bridges sanctioned as on
1.4.2004 on Southern Railway which serves the Kerala State
also. In the current financial year Rs. 39.21 crores has
been allotted in the budget estimate for execution of
ongoing works over Southern Railway. Out of 354 bridges,
62 bridges are targeted for completion in the current
financial year. Remaining bridges are in the various
stages planning and execution and planned to complete upto
2006-07.
Indian Railways have more than 8000 stations. The
works of provision of Foot over bridges, platforms
arrangements and modernization of stations are taken up as
per norms based on actual passenger traffic needs at the
station, inter-se priorities and availability of funds.
State-wise position is not maintained. Kerala falls in
Southern Railway and the details of Foot over
Bridge/platform arrangements/modernization of railway
stations sanctioned on Southern Railway are included in
the âWorks Machinery and Rolling Stock Programme, Part-IIâ
presented to the Parliament along with the Railway Budget
Documents.
