Question : Production of Milk

(a) whether the Government has fixed any targets or formulated a scheme to increase the production of milk in various States of the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government proposes to extend any incentives to the States in this regard, if so, the details thereof; and
(d) the various steps taken by the Government to increase the milk production in the country to fill the gap between the demand and supply of milk in various States of the country including Delhi?

(a) & (b) Yes, Madam. In order to complement and supplement the efforts made by the States for enhancing milk production and productivity of milch animals Government is implementing following Central and Centrally sponsored scheme schemes:

i) Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM);
ii) National Programme for Bovine Breeding (NPBB);
iii) National Mission on Bovine Productivity (NMBP) and
iv) National Dairy Plan-I (NDP-I)
v) Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme

(c) Assistance is made available to the States and UTs under above mentioned schemes. Details of the schemes is as under:

Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal 100%
ii) Semen station 25%
iii) Village based milk procurement systems 50%


(d) Major Steps undertaken by the Government to enhance milk production and productivity of milch animals to fill the gap between the demand and supply of milk in various States of the country are as under:

i. Strengthening of semen stations
ii. Induction of high genetic merit bulls for semen production;
iii. Field performance recording;
iv. Strengthening of bulls mother farms;
v. Setting up of Gokul Grams etc.
vi. Establishment of Multi Purpose AI Technicians in Rural India (MAITRIs);
vii. Strengthening of existing field AI network
viii. Identification of animals using Unique Identification (UID) No. and issuing health cards to animals in milk
