MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) FOR ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE (SHRI ANIL MADHAV DAVE)
(a) to (c) A four member Team comprising of officials of the Ministry and G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment & Sustainable Development was constituted by the Government in November, 2016 for undertaking a site visit to Loktak Lake in Manipur with following terms of reference:
- To review the implementation of works carried out with the financial assistance provided by the Central and State Governments so far for conservation and management of Loktak lake, and suggest further interventions required for conserving the lake in a holistic manner;
- Enumerate steps required to be initiated for declaring Loktak lake as a UNESCO World Heritage Site; and
- Identify steps and actions to be taken for increasing the tourism potential of Loktak Lake.
The team visited the Loktak lake along with officials of the State Government and Loktak Development Authority, held discussions with concerned agencies of the State Government and has submitted its report.
