MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS
(SHRI RAJEN GOHAIN)
(a) & (b): At present, internet service is available only in 12301/12302 Howrah – New Delhi – Howrah Rajdhani Express through a two-way satellite link where there is a limit to the overall speed with which passengers can access the internet. Currently, one 4 Mbps satellite link is available for the two rakes of the said train and only 2 Mbps per rake is accessible as both 12301 and 12302 are on the run at the same time. This 2 Mbps is shared by all passengers on board who are using internet services.
Further, efforts are being made to identify a suitable and cost effective technology for providing Wi-Fi Internet facility in moving trains. Once such technology is identified, provision of Internet at better speeds in more trains will be taken up.
