(a) whether the internal inquiry report headed by Lt. General Reddy has since been received;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the main observations/recommendations, made therein;

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1192 FOR 2.3.2000.

The General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command, directed his Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General A.R.K. Reddy to carry out an overall appraisal of the Kargil operations. This has since been completed. The appraisal is not in the nature of an enquiry.

2. Such appraisals are part of an established practice in the Army and can be ordered by a formation commander with a view to draw lessons from an operation for the future.

3. The army has carried out an in-house review, subsequent to this appraisal.
