Question : TELECAST ON ISSUES SUCH AS CHILD MARRIAGE AND BIGAMY



(a) whether the Government is aware that telecast of serials based on the issues such as child marriage and bigamy by certain TV channels which is casting adverse effects on the viewers particularly young persons and children;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the action taken or being taken by the Government in this regard;

(d) whether the Government has taken any concrete steps to stop the telecast of such serials by these channels; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (e) No such study/report has been brought to the notice of the Government. There is no pre-censorship of Programmes telecast on Private TV channels. However, all programmes and advertisements telecast on TV channels and transmitted/retransmitted through the Cable TV network are required to adhere to the Programme and Advertising Codes prescribed under the Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 and Rules framed thereunder. Action is taken as per rules whenever violation of Codes is brought to the notice of the Government.
