Question : M-Aadhaar

Will the Minister of ELECTRONICS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has made any provision for the passengers to use M-Aadhaar as an ID card; and

(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor along with the time by which this system is likely to be implemented?

Answer given by the minister

(a): M-Aadhaar is a secure mobile application developed by UIDAI, using which, an Aadhaar number holder can download his/her Aadhaar on his/her mobile in the digital format. However, decision to use m-Aadhaar as ID instrument (ID Card) for the passengers is taken by the concerned Ministry / Department.

(b): As per information received from UIDAI, Ministry of Railways has issued Commercial Circular No. 62 of 2017 on 08.09.2017 (copy available at http://www.indianrailways.gov.in/railwayboard/uploads/directorate/traffic_comm/Comm_Cir_2017/62_2017_R.pdf) and Ministry of Civil Aviation has issued AVSEC Circular No. 15 / 2017 dated 26.10.2017 (copy available at http://www.bcasindia.nic.in/law/AC%2015-2017-listofidproof.pdf) regarding acceptance of m-Aadhaar as proof of Identity for passengers.
