(a)&(b) Shoreline change including erosion and sea level rise are slow phenomena and manifested globally. The Ministry of Earth Science monitors the shoreline changes along the Indian coast on an annual basis. Studies indicate various patterns namely, advancement of the sea landwards (erosion), advancement of the land towards sea (accretion) and stable shoreline respectively. Such shoreline changes have been observed for Southern Indian Coastal States including Kerala, which have impacted the local habitations.
(c)&(d) A national strategy for coastal protection along with guidelines for coastal protection measures have been framed for all Coastal States and Union Territories, including Kerala by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change.The Government of India in July, 2015 have approved the implementation of World Bank assisted Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project in 10 coastal States in phase- II, including the State of Kerala. The project is aimed at preparation of integrated coastal zone management plan for selected coastline stretched of these states through community participation, capacity building and institutional development in the area of coastal management.
