Question : READING HABIT



(a) the steps taken by the Government / National Book Trust for spreading reading habits among the people of the country;

(b) whether the National Book Trust has requested or the Government proposes to give additional funds to organise workshops and symposiums in this regard; and

(c) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) : To promote reading habit among the people of the country, the following steps have been taken by National Book Trust (NBT):

 
(i) Organisation of book fairs and book exhibitions across the country (ii) Participation in Book Fairs organized by various Publishers Associations (iii) Organisation of annual New Delhi World Book Fair (iv) Publications of reasonably priced quality books for general readers and children (v) The Scheme of Financial Assistance to Voluntary Organisations and professional bodies of publishers and writers for organizing seminars, conferences of writers / publishers/ printers / booksellers related to book promotion and publishing.


(b) & (c) : During the last three year, the grants provided by Ministry of Human Resource Development to National Book Trust under the scheme grant-in-aid for book promotional activities are as follows:
