Question : FALL IN LEVEL OF DISSOLVED OXYGEN IN RIVER WATER



(a) whether the Government propose to conduct a survey on fall in the level of dissolved oxygen in river water in various parts of the country particularly in Assam, Orissa and North East Region, in view of increasing threats to aqua-life, fishery and other water creatures and plants;

(b) if so the details thereof; and

(c) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) Presently CICFRI, Barrackpore is conducting investigation on ecology, biodiversity and fisheries of selected river systems particularly Ganga and its major tributaries, Cauvery and Sutlej. Water quality parameter including dissolved oxygen content is a part of this investigation. In these rivers system, physico-chemical parameters did not show any alarming trend. Presently there is no proposal to conduct a survey on fall in the level of dissolved oxygen in river water in Assam, Orissa and North East region.

(b) Does not arise.

(c) Due to limited resources, the survey on the fall in the level of dissolved oxygen in the rivers of Assam, Orissa and North Eastern Regions is not under consideration.
