Question : COMPENSATION TO FARMERS ALONG INDO PAK BORDER



(a) whether farmers whose land fall on the 554 km. barbed fencing along the Indo-Pak border have been paid adequate compensation;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the State Government of Punjab has requested for increasing the compensation from Rs. 2500 to Rs. 5000;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the reaction of the Government thereto?

(a) to (e): As per available records, the land compensation for land occupied for fencing along the Indo-Pak Border has been paid by the Government. During 1999-2000, the Planning Commission sanctioned an amount of Rs. 6.00 cr. under Central Assistance Scheme@ Rs.2500/-per acre. The Government of Punjab has requested the Government of India to pay the compensation at the rate of Rs.5,000/- per acre from 1999-2000 which comes to around Rs.8.60 cr. per year. The State Government has been requested to give specific details of the land along with ownership details.
