Question : Quality of Steel Products

(a) whether the Government has issued/ proposes to issue guidelines for laying down standards for indigenously manufactured steel equipment;
(b) if so, the details thereof along with the mechanism put in place for controlling the quality of imported steel equipment;
(c) whether there has been increase in the imported steel equipment during the last three years and the current year and if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor; and
(d) the corrective steps taken/being taken by the Government in this regard?

(b) (b): In the National Capital Goods Policy 2016, one of the recommendations is to frame standards for the steel plant equipment.

(c): As per Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics website data, the import of steel plant equipment over the last three year is as follows.

(d): The technology development for the steel plant equipment has been included in the scheme of “Enhancement of Competitiveness in the Indian Capital Goods Sector” of the Department. Upto 100% FDI is allowed for the manufacture of steel plant equipment under automatic route.
