Question : HOSTELS FOR SCS AND OBCS STUDENTS



(a) the details of proposals received from various State Governments/UT Administrations including Karnataka, Arunachal Pradesh and NGOs for construction of Hostels for SCs and OBCs students during 2003-2004 and 2004-2005, State/UT-wise and NGO-wise;

(b) the funds allocated/released and actually utilized in this regard during the said period, State/UT- wise and NGO-wise;

(c) the number of students benefited, yearly under the schemes;

(d) the details of proposals/applications pending with Union Government in this regard, particularly from Karnataka, State/UT-wise;

(e) the reasons for their pendency and the time by which the same are likely to be cleared and the grants released;

(f) whethere there are instances of involvement of officials in large-scale corruption in sanction of proposals; and (g) if so, the details thereof and the action taken against guilty officials?

(a) & (b): The details of funds released and utilised by State Governments/UT Administrations including Karnataka and Arunachal Pradesh during 2003-04 and 2004-05 under the Centrally Sponsored Schemes of

(i) Hostels for SC Boys and Girls and
(ii) Hostels for OBC Boys and Girls are enclosed as Annexure-I and Annexure-II respectively.There is no provision for release of funds directly to NGOs under the schemes.

(c): The number of students benefited during 2003-04 and 2004-05 under the scheme are as under:-

(d) & (e): Proposals received from State Governments/UT Administration of Andhra Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu and Tripura are under examination.

(f): No such instances have been brought to the notice of the Ministry.

(g): Does not arise.
