Question : Carbon Footprint

(a) whether the Government has taken any steps to reduce the carbon footprint as a result of civil aviation;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the details of data on the carbon footprint as a result of civil aviation during the last three years and the current year?

(a) and (b) Yes, Sir. The Government has taken several steps to reduce carbon footprint of the civil aviation sector.;

Measures taken by airports to reduce carbon footprint include rationalization of operating times/procedures, use of renewable energy, use of alternative fuels in ground handling vehicles etc.;

Measures taken by airlines to reduce carbon footprint include optimized airspace utilization, reduction of unwanted weight of aircraft, avoiding moisture/dirt accumulation in aircraft, proper speed and flap management etc.;

(c) The details of CO2 emissions from Indian Aviation Sector from 2016 to 2019 may kindly be seen at Annexure.
