Question : CLEARNCE OF PARCELS BY FOREIGN PARCEL P.O. AT AHMEDABAD



(a) the number of parcels containing electronic goods like CDs etc. received in the foreign Parcel Post Office at Ahmedabad during the last three years;

(b) the number of such parcels cleared as sample parcels during the period and the revenue collected by the Government therefrom;

(c) the mechanism adopted by the Government to accord clearance to such Sample Parcels;

(d) whether the device ensures that no under valuation of article is done; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) The number of parcels constraining electronic goods received at Foreign Parcel Post office Ahmedabad during the last three years are as under:

(b) The number of such parcels cleared as sample parcels during the above period are given in the table below. The revenue from sample parcels in Nil due to the reasons given in (c) below:

(c) Duty-free clearance is allowed for such parcels with samples valued up to Rupees Five Thousand as provided under Customs notification No. 154/94 dated 13.7.1994. However, the Suppliers’ invoice showing value for the purpose of customs and indicating that the goods are samples and supplied free of cost, are obtained from the addressee before the parcels are delivered. An undertaking regarding non-payment is also obtained from the addressee before release of the parcels.

(d) No such case of under valuation noticed at Foreign Post Office, Ahmedabad.

(e) Does not arise in view of (d) above.
