Question : Import of Petroleum Products

(a) the details of the steps taken so far to reduce the import of petroleum products in the country;
(b) the details of the steps taken to increase the domestic production of petroleum products;
(c) whether the Government has started the operation from new rigs; and
(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): The present refining capacity of Indian oil companies of 249.2 Million Metric Tonne (MMT) per annum is as against the domestic consumption of 214 MMT. This also leaves some surplus for export of petroleum products. Further, Indian oil companies are fully prepared to meet the future demand of petrol, diesel and petroleum products in the country.

(c) & (d): ONGC has started operations from two (02) new Rigs at Ahmedabad.
