Question : SMART SCHOOLS



(a) the details of funds utilised for setting up of ICT facilities under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyaan (RMSA) during the last three years of the 12th Plan period;

(b) the break-up of the number of Government and Government aided schools that have been upgraded to the smart schools status under the scheme, State-wise;

(c) whether the Government plans to implement nation-wide smart schools initiative that brings in interactive methodologies and structured learning in schools;

(d) if so, the detials thereof; and

(e) the list of Government schools which have been successfully converted into smart schools, State-wise?

(a) An amount of Rs. 345.29 crores, Rs. 554.99 crores and Rs. 506.57 crores have been released to States/UTs for setting up of ICT facilities for the years 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 respectively under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA).

(b) to (e) The existing Information Communication Technology component of RMSA scheme provides for setting up of 150 smart schools across the country to act as “Technology Demonstrators” and to propagate ICT skills among students of neighbourhood school. 64 schools approved to be set up as Smart Schools across the country under the Scheme so far, are government senior and higher secondary schools. The State-wise list of these 64 schools approved is at Annexure-I.
