Question : SUICIDE CASES



(a) the total number of suicide cases reported during the last one year and the current year, State-wise and gender-wise;

(b) whether the Government has identified the causes / circumstances for such incidents;

(c) if so, the details therof;

(d) whether the Government has formulated any action plan to prevent such cases; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI JITENDRA SINGH)

(a) : As per the available information, the total number of suicide cases reported during the last one year, State-wise and gender-wise are enclosed at Annexure. The data regarding the current year is not available with NCRB.

(b) to (c) : The causes of suicide have their origin in the social, economic, cultural, psychological and health status of an individual. Major mental health problems like depression, schizophrenia, addiction to alcohol, affective disorders, drug dependence, adjustment disorders, mood and personality problems have been identified among those committed or attempting suicides.

(d) to (e) : The Government has approved implementation of the District Mental Health Programme in some of the districts of the country with added components of suicide prevention services, work place stress management, life skills training and counseling in schools and colleges.
