Question : EMPLOYMENT TO YOUTHS AND WOMEN



(a) whether the textile sector generates employment opportunities next only to agriculture sector in the country;

(b) if so, the new scheme prepared to provide employment to the youth and the women in the textile sector;

(c) whether the Government is considering to prepare any policy for the success of Make-in-India programme and making the textile sector job-oriented; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a): Textile sector is one of the major sectors providing employment. As per report of the working group on textile and Jute Industry for 12th Five Year Plan, generation of employment at 121.20 million has been projected by 2017 (end of the 12th Five year Plan) in Textile and allied sectors.

(b) to (d): In order to facilitate development of various segments of the Textile Industry and to generate employment opportunities including for youth and women, Government has taken policy initiatives and has launched various schemes. These includes, Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS), Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP), Scheme for Development of Technical Textiles, Integrated Skill Development Scheme (ISDS), Schemes for the development of the Powerloom Sector, National Handloom Development Programme, Revival, Reforms and Restructuring (RRR) package for handloom sector etc.

These schemes have facilitated setting up of new units as well as expansion of the existing units in various segments of the textile industry including apparel and garment sector and handlooms generating employment opportunities on a substantial scale.
