Question : INFRASTRUCTURAL FACILITIES FOR CANCER PATIENTS



(a) whether the Union Government is providing financial assistance to the State Governments for creating and upgrading infrastructural facilities for cancer patients under the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP);

(b) if so, the details of the assistance provided to the States and utilised by them during the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise;

(c) whether the Union Government proposes to enhance the assistance during the current Five Year Plan in view of the increasing number of cancer patients in the country; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d) This Ministry has evolved a comprehensive cancer control strategy i.e. National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) since 1975. Under the existing NCCP, the Central Government is supplementing the efforts of the State Government by providing financial assistance of Rs. 3.00 crores for upgradation/strengthening of existing Regional Cancer Centres (RCCs) and Rs.5.00 crores is provided for recognizing new RCCs in the States for creating/upgrading infrastructural facilities for the cancer patients. Financial assistance up to Rs. 3.00 crore is provided for setting up Radiotherapy Units in Government Medical Collages/Hospitals in the States.
