Question : DEVELOPMENT OF INLAND FISHERIES AND AQUACULTURE



(a) the quantum of funds released and utilised by the State Governments for the Development of Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture during each of the last two years and the current year, scheme-wise and State-wise;

(b) whether the Union Government has received proposals from various State Governments including Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu for development of fresh water aquaculture;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) the follow-up action taken thereon; and

(e) the extent to which the fishermen are likely to benefit from these schemes?

(a) The details of funds released and utilised by the State Governments under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme `Development of Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture` during the last two years and the current year are at Annexure.

(b) Yes, Madam.

(c) &(d) As on 20.8.2011, proposals under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme `Development of Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture` have been received from eleven States for the current financial year (2011-12), namely, Nagaland, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Sikkim, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamilnadu and Mizoram. Tamilnadu Government has submitted a proposal for ` 225 lakh and ` 198.20 lakh for development of cold water fisheries and for fresh water aquaculture respectively. Government of Madhya Pradesh has submitted a proposal of` 177.54 lakh for development of freshwater Aquaculture.

The first installment has been released for viable proposals from five States namely Nagaland, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Sikkim and Chhattisgarh.

(e) Under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme - `Development of Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture`, fishermen are provided assistance through the State Government for construction of ponds, reclamation of ponds, input cost, soil and water testing kits etc.
