Question : Programmes for Promotion of Tamil Literary and Arts

(a) the different programmes being conducted for the promotion of Tamil literary, visual and performing arts;

(b) the current budget allocated for the promotion of Tamil literary, visual and performing arts;

(c) the criteria for selection of programmes to be showcased, aided or sponsored by the Ministry and details of various beneficiaries of the Ministry‘s programmes in Tamil Nadu;

d) whether the Ministry has consulted the Government of Tamil Nadu for the various programmes and projects in the State of Tamil Nadu and details of such consultations held since 2014; and

(e) if so, the details thereof with subjects of discussions, minutes and outcomes of such consultations itemized date-wise?

(a) Three academies under the aegis of Ministry of Culture, namely, Sahitya Akademi, Kalakshetra Foundation and Centre for Cultural Resources & Training (CCRT) conduct programs for promotion of Tamil literary, visual and performing arts.

Sahitya Akademi - the National Academy of Letters, works for the promotion of Indian literature in 24 Indian languages, (including Tamil) by conferring Awards in four different categories, publishing books and organizing literary programmes throughout the year. The Akademi regularly organises different literary activities like seminars, symposiums, Meet the Author, Kathasandhi, Through My Window, Kavi Anuvadak, Yuva Sahiti, Kavisandhi etc. in Tamil language in different parts of the country.

Kalakshetra Foundation, through the Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts, conducts Diploma and Post Diploma Courses in Bharathanatyam, Carnatic Music & Visual Arts. The curriculum of these courses includes Indian Heritage, History, Tamil language and ancient Tamil literature.

CCRT conducts training programmes for teachers & teacher educators, lectures on Literary Heritage and Arts of South India including Tamil Literature, visual and performing arts from time to time.

(b) No Separate budget provision has been made. The regular grants of the Akademies are utilized for promotion of the same.

(c) The Sahitya Akademi has a Language Advisory Board with 10 members in each of its 24 recognised languages, including Tamil. These Advisory Boards recommend programme and publication activities of the Akademi in respective languages.

Kalakshetra Foundation has a repertoire of around 36 Dance Dramas in various languages including Tamil Language. Programmes are selected based on the occasion/theme.

(d) & (e) Yes, Sir. CCRT has requested Directorates of Education/SCERT, in Tamil Nadu to get the teachers deputed for training programmes being conducted in CCRT Headquarter at New Delhi and Regional Centres. The details are as under:
