Question : DISTRICT LEVEL LOK ADALATS



(a) whether the Government propose to set up a district level Lok Adalats headed by retired Judges throughout the country to settle expeditiously cases particularly consumers related issues pertaining to municipalities and other oriented services; and

(b) if so, the time by which these adalats are likely to be functional ?

(a)&(b) Permanent and Continuous Lok Adalats have been set up in almost all the Districts in the country. Such Permanent and Continuous Lok Adalat are empowered to deal with all cases including consumer related issues pertaining to municipalities and service oriented cases for which cognizance can be taken by Lok Adalats under Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. Sub-section (2) of Section 19 of the said Act provides for utilization of services of retired Judicial Officers to preside over such Lok Adalats and their services are being utilized wherever feasible and considered necessary.
