Question : MODEL DEGREE COLLEGES



(a) whether the Government has decided to set up model degree colleges under the Rashtriya Uchhatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) in each district of the country including Rajasthan, Karnataka and Jharkhand;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the number of colleges proposed to be opened during the current year, State-wise;

(c) whether the Government has received any proposals from the State Governments including Rajasthan in this regard;

(d) if so, the details of the proposals sanctioned and pending, State-wise;

(e) the details of funds sanctioned for such colleges during the last three years and the current year, State-wise; and

(f) the progress made so far in this regard, State-wise?

(a) : Yes Madam.

(b): The Government had, in 2009, launched a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS), which aimed at creating Model Degree Colleges (MDC) in 374 Educationally Backward Districts (EBDs) in the country. This scheme has been subsumed in Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA). Based on the proposals received from the States during the current year (2014-15) 2 MDCs in Himachal Pradesh, 2 in Punjab and 1 in Nagaland have been approved upto June 2014.

(c) to (f): Yes Madam. Since, the launch of the CSS of MDC in 2009, a total of 109 MDCs in 12 States has been sanctioned and an amount of Rs. 300.493 crores released for the purpose. Some proposals, including one from the State of Rajasthan were rejected on ground of ineligibility and no proposals are pending. The State-wise details of funds released are annexed.?
