Question : Incidents in Nuclear Power Plants

(a) the total number of small and big incidents that took place in nuclear power plants of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) during the last three years in which loss of life and property has occurred, Nuclear Power Plant-wise;

(b) whether financial assistance has been provided to the personnel who got injured in those incidents and if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the details of the facilities provided by NPCIL or the Government to those personnel who are unable to work in the plants again?

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR PERSONNEL, PUBLIC GRIEVANCES & PENSIONS AND PRIME MINISTER’S OFFICE (DR.JITENDRA SINGH):

(a) There have been no nuclear accidents in Indian nuclear power plants involving release of radioactivity/radiation. However, there have been instances of industrial nature resulting in two fatalities, one each at Tarapur in Maharashtra and Rawatbhata in Rajasthan in the last three years.

(b) Yes, Sir. Compensation was paid in line with the provisions of the Employee’s Compensation Act and Workmen’s Compensation Act.

(c) The provisions of statutory acts like the Employees Compensation Act, 1923 and The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 are followed in such cases.
