Question : Installation of Escalators

(a) whether the Railways has any plan to install escalators at all Railway Stations in the country especially in the Udaipur city of North-West Railway;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the number of such modernization works under consideration of the Railways for the last two years and the current year along with the total number of pending projects;

(d) the total amount of funds allocated for the said works; and

(e) the time by which the said projects are likely to be completed?

(a) to (e) As per the existing guidelines, escalators are to be provided at ‘A1’, ‘A’ & ‘C’ category stations and stations of tourist importance progressively based on techno commercial feasibility & availability of funds.
Sanction exists for provision of 400 escalators which are being provided progressively. So far, 277 escalators have been provided and works are in progress at 100 locations.

2 nos. Of escalators have been sanctioned for Udaipur City for which procurement process has been started.
Fund allocation under Plan Head “Passenger Amenities”, during 2013-14, 2014-15 & 2015-16 is ? 914.40 crore, ? 1047.90 crore & ? 1211.84 crore respectively.
