Question : NHS IN BORDER AREAS



(a) the details with regard to highways constructed in border areas of the country during the last three years and proposed to be constructed in next three years along with the funds likely to be spent thereon, State-wise;

(b) whether the National Highways (NHs) connectivity Company Limited, has been set up by the Government; and

(c) if so, the details thereof along with the work assigned to this company, State-wise?

(a) During the last three years about 490 km of National Highways are constructed in bordering areas by Border Roads Organization (BRO) and about 100 km by State PWDs. National Highways are being developed on the basis of inter-se portly and availability of funds and no targets is fixed for the construction of National Highways of border areas for the next three years.

(b) Yes, Madam.

(c) The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has incorporated a company named “National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation limited” (NHIDCL) on 18th July 2014. The company is mandated to promote survey, establish, design, build, operate, maintain and upgrade National Highways and other infrastructure including inter-connecting roads with focus on the North Eastern region and Strategic Areas of the country sharing international boundaries with neighboring countries. An approximate aggregate length of 10,000 km as detailed below has been identified to begin with for development through this company:
