Question : POLICY ON COAL ALLOCATION



(a) the details of the existing policy on coal allocation to various public and private users;

(b) whether the existing policy is a major hurdle in adequate production and supply of coal to various users and difficulties are being faced by various coal based sectors as a result thereof;

(c) is so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto; and

(d) the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to address the issue?

(a): Allocation of 204 Coal Mines/Blocks cancelled by the Hon’ble Supreme Courthas been started as per the provisions of Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act, 2015 and the Rules made thereunder. Further, the Coal Mines/Blocks are also allocated as per the provisions of ‘Auction by Competitive Bidding of Coal Mine Rules – 2012’ made under the provisions of Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957.
