Question : DEVELOPMENT OF TOURIST SPOTS



(a) the details of funds allocated for development of tourist spots in the country during each of the last three years;

(b) whether the State Governments including Gujarat and Rajasthan have sought special financial assistance for development of tourist spots in the States; and

(c) if so, the details thereof and the assistance provided by the Union Government to these States?

STATEMENT IN REPLY TO PART (A) TO (C) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION No.+47 TO BE ANSWERED ON 4-3-2002 REGARDING DEVELOPMENT OF TOURIST SPOTS.


(a): The Department of Tourism, Government of India in consultation with the State Government/UT Administrations sanctioned 1110 projects amounting to Rs.262.19 crores for development and promotion of tourism in the country during last three years.

Year-wise details of funds sanctioned is as given below:-

(b) The Department of Tourism, Government of India extends financial assistance every year for prioritised projects in consultation with the State Government/UT Administrations. During 2001-2002, 551 projects amounting to Rs.159.51 crores have been prioritised for all the States/UTs including Gujarat and Rajasthan.

(c) During the year 2000-2001 an amount of Rs.4.55 crores for 22 projects in Rajasthan and Rs.5.11 crores for 19 projects in Gujarat was sanctioned for development and promotion of tourism.
