a) C&AG report for the year ending March, 1997 pointed out certain irregularities in execution of works under MPLADS. These relate, inter-alia, to works executed by District Collectors without recommendation of MPs, works executed on the recommendation of MP`s representatives, execution of works not covered under the Scheme.

(b) All the Chief Secretaries/Administrators of States and Union Territories have been requested to examine the matter. In addition, all the District Collectors have been instructed to take necessary remedial steps.

(c) Under MPLAD Scheme, during the period 1993-2000(upto 31.10.2000) a sum of Rs.6594.90 crore has been released, out of which Rs.3984.42 crore has been actually spent. Detailed Information on unspent balance of sitting MPs is available with the concerned district heads.
