Question : IMPORTS OF PULSES AND PEAS



(a) whether pulses and peas are being imported in the country;

(b) if so, the quantum of pulses and peas imported during each of the last three years and the value of foreign exchange incurred thereon; and

(c) the efforts made by the Government to reduce the import of pulses and peas?

(a): Yes, Sir.

(b): The details of import of pulses and peas and the value during the last three years is at Annexure.

(c): In order to increase the production of pulses, the scheme of National Pulses Development Project (NPDP) is being implemented under the ambit of Technology Mission on Oilseeds & Pulses, Department of Agriculture & Cooperation. Efforts are also being made to increase the production by way of providing incentives to the farmers. Assistance is provided on production and distribution of seeds, seed minikits, improved farm implements, sprinkler sets, gypsum/pyrites, micro nutrients, rhyzobium culture etc.
