Question : Scheme to Boost Agro-Forestry

(a) whether the Government is implementing any scheme to boost agro-forestry in the country and if so, the details thereof;
(b) the State where the said scheme is being implemented;
(c) the regions being covered under the said scheme; and
(d) Whether the scheme envisages to promote timber trees on farmers land?

(a)Yes Sir. Sub-Mission on Agroforestry Scheme is being implemented by Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare since 2016-17 to encourage tree plantation on farm land along with crops/ cropping system to help the farmers get additional income and make their farming systems more climate resilient and adaptive.

(b)& (c):The scheme is presently implemented in 21 States viz. Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, M.P., Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, U.P., Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and 2 UTs viz. J&K and Ladakh with funding pattern of 60:40 between Centre and State Govt. for all States excepting NE & Hilly states, where it is 90:10 and 100% in case of UTs & National Level Agencies. The scheme is implemented in the States having liberalized transit-regulations for transport of timber.

(d) Yes sir. Prominent timber tree species like sheesam, teak, eucalyptus, Malabar neem (Meliadubia), Ardu, Sandalwood, Poplaretc are promoted.
