Question : Water Grid Plan

(a) Whether the Union Government is aware that Government of Andhra Pradesh has prepared plans to set up water grid to provide drinking water to people till 2050 and requested the Union Government to sanction Rs. 25,000 Crores;
(b) If so, the details thereof and steps taken/ proposed to be taken by the Union Government;
(c) Whether it is true that external assistance is also sought for this project; and
(d) If so, the details of proposals received and action taken by the Union Government?

(a) & (b) Government of Andhra Pradesh had requested for Rs. 30,000 Crores (50% of the project cost) under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to provide bulk water supply mains and deliver water to every household of Gram Panchayats (GPs) and Municipalities/ Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of Andhra Pradesh through house service connections.

The State was informed that under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation (DDWS) provides technical and financial assistance to States. The funds are allocated to States as per the approved fund allocation criteria. Also, additional funds are made available to the States based on their performance and availability of funds. During FY 2019-20, Andhra Pradesh has been allocated Rs 303.46 Crore for Jal Jeevan Mission.

(c) As per the Preliminary Project Proposal dashboard of Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, such project proposal seeking external assistance has not been received.

(d) Does not arise.
