STARRED QUESTION NO. 440* FOR 1ST APRIL, 2022

(a) and (b): Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) is derived as the proportion of maternal deaths per 1,00,000 live births as per the Sample Registration System (SRS) published by the Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, India. The MMR of India has declined over the years to 103 for the period 2017-19 as compared to 113 in 2016-18, 122 in 2015-17, 130 in 2014-16.
The Target 3.1 of Sustainable Development Goal set by United Nations aims at reducing the global MMR to less than 70 per 1,00,000 live births by 2030. Accordingly, the States of Kerala, Maharashtra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand have already achieved the SDG target of MMR. The State wise MMR for the periods 2016-18 and 2017-19 is given at Annexure.
