Question : CONGESTION AT AIRPORTS



(a) whether the Government proposes to install a new civilian application system developed by US Defence equipment major Raytheon alongwith ISRO and Airports Authority of India which could help in removing the congestion in the airports;

(b) if so, the details of the specialities of the system; and

(c) the time by which a final decision is likely to be taken in this regard?

(a): Yes, Madam. Airports Authority of India (AAI) has taken up the development of the GPS Added Geo Augumented Navigation (GAGAN) System in association with Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and M/S Raytheon Company, USA which will help in precession Approach Navigation to Aircrafts Terminal Approach Areas of Indian Air space.

(b)GAGAN will provide seamless air navigation service across regional boundries compatible with the other space based Augmentation System being adopted by other countries like USA, Japan, Europe etc.

(c)Technology Demostration Phase (TDS) of GAGAN has already been competed in August, 2007. The Final Operational Phase (FOP) will be completed by June, 2012 and certified GAGAN service will be available by June, 2013.
