(a) the number of sponge iron plants in public and private sector operational in the country at present, State/UT-wise including Chhattisgarh;
(b) the details of employment avenue generated by these plants;
(c) whether any provision has been made to provide employment to local people in the said plants; and
(d) if so, the details thereof?

(b) As per survey conducted by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC), total employment in the domestic sponge iron market stood at 1,15,927.
(c)&(d): Specific decision on recruitment of employees in private steel sector is taken by individual steel companies / investors on the basis of their requirement. In the case of CPSEs, recruitment is based on Government Guidelines.
