Question : DIGITALISATION OF DD AKASHWANI



(a) the Doordarshan (DD) and All India Radio (AIR) stations functioning in the country including in the backward and tribal areas as on date, location-wise and AIR/DD-wise;

(b) whether the Government has chalked out any scheme to digitalise the DD Stations/studio and AIR Stations to face stiff competition with the private companies;

(c) if so, the details thereof, DD/AIR Station-wise;

(d) the funds allocated/released for the scheme; and

(e) the time by which the work is likely to be started and completed?

(a) Prasar Bharati has informed that at present 67 Doordarshan Studio Centres and 1415 TV Transmitters are functioning in the country (including backward and tribal areas) State-wise locations of the above Doordarshan Stations are given in Annexure-I.

As regards All India Radio, 279 broadcasting Stations are functioning in the country which includes AIR stations in backward and tribal areas. The State-wise details are given in Annexure-II.

(b) to (e) Yes Sir. As part of 11th Five Year Plan a scheme of Digitalization of Transmitters and Studios in DD Network was approved in April, 2010 at a cost of Rs.620.00 crore. The scheme interalia includes projects of full digitalization of 39 Studios & establishment of 40 digital Transmitters as per details given in Annexure-III. The above projects are at different stages of implementation and are expected to be completed, in phases, in about three years time.

The scheme of Digitalization of AIR Network has already been approved under New Schemes of 11th Five Year Plan for starting work at 165 stations as per details given in Annexure-II. An amount of Rs.908.12 crores was sanctioned for this scheme during the 11th Five Year Plan which is under implementation. The digitalization projects approved under the present scheme are expected to be completed by March, 2013, subject to adequate fund allocation by Planning Commission. The remaining facilities are proposed to be digitalized during 12th Plan and complete digitalization of AIR network is targeted to be completed by 2017 subject to allocation of funds by Planning Commission.
