Question : MIGRATION OF STUDENTS



(a) whether there is any estimate of the number of students studying in private and Government schools in urban areas;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise;

(c) whether the students in urban areas of the country are migrating from Government schools to private schools;

(d) if so, the details thereof along with the reasons thereof; and

(e) whether the Government has any plan to involve private sector to improve the standard of education in primary schools and if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): According to District Information System for Education (DISE), the Enrolment in Class I-VIII in Government Schools of urban area was 14502972 and in Private Schools of urban area was 32764463 during 2013-14. State –wise detail is given in Annexure-I.

(c) & (d): The Enrolment in class I-VIII in Government Schools of urban area has marginally decreased from 14896865 in 2012-13 to 14502972 in 2013-14. At the same time enrolment in Class I-VIII in private Schools of urban area has increased from 31930520 in 2012-13 to 32764463 in 2013-14.

(e): The management of the school education system is largely in the domain of State Governments. Through centrally sponsored schemes, the Central Government helps States/UTs to improve standards in government schools.
