Question : KOREAN SHIP AT KANDLA PORT



(a) whether any decision has been taken by the Government with regard to the Korean ship detained at Kandla Port last year alleged to be carrying missile manufacturing equipments; and

(b) if so, the, details thereof stating the destination towards the ship was heading?

(a)&(b): A North Korean ship `M.V. kuwolson` was detained by Customs authorities, Kandla on 1st July, 1999 for security reasons. The vessel was arrested by the Mercantile Marine Department on 2nd July, 1999 for rectification of certain deficiencies. After its release by the Customs and Mercantile Marine Department authorities, the vessel was released from Port on 4.2.2000. As per the NOC issued, the next Port of call of the ship was Singapore.
