(a) whether the Union Government are aware that some State Governments have introduced special literacy programmes in their States;
(b) if so, whether the Government have extended or
proposes to extend special assistance to such States; and
(c) if so, the details thereof?

(a)& (b): yes, Sir. The State Government of Madhya
Pradesh has introduced special literacy programmes
called’ Padhna-badhna’ andolan for one year ending in
December,2000
The State has not asked for any special assistance
for the programme over and above funds released for Total
and Post Literacy programmes in the State.
(c) Question does not arise.
