Question : INDIA AS A WORLD TOURISM CENTRE



(a) whether WTTC has identified India as a major world tourism centre for the next decades;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) whether the Government proposes to spend more amount on tourism and also to mobilise resources for tourism; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a): Yes, Sir.

(b): As per “The 2007 Travel & Tourism Economic Research” document of WTTC, India has been identified amongst the top 10 countries in the world during 2008-2017, in terms of expected growth in personal travel & tourism, business travel, travel & tourism demand.

(c): Yes, Sir.

(d): For the 11th Five Year Plan (2007-2012), the Ministry of Tourism has proposed an outlay of Rs.9,290 crore against the 10th Five Year Plan (2002-2007) outlay of Rs.2,900 crore.
